Uganda Letter of Authorization (LOA) guidelines

This page is created to address and answer the most frequently asked questions about the registration requirements for Uganda and how to complete the Letter of Authorization (LOA).

Registration requirements

This section provides information about the requirements for registering senders in Uganda, which vary based on whether they are local or international senders. Additionally, if you need more information about the country's coverage, restrictions, and current regulations, click here (opens in a new tab).

To register your senders in Uganda, follow and submit the requirements below depending on the senders' traffic origin.

Sender requirements

  • Alpha senders:
    • Space and some special characters like dash (-) are not supported. An alternative to (-) is an underscore (_).
    • Generic senders are not allowed.
    • Numeric senders are strictly forbidden.
    • Multiple versions of the same sender can be registered.
  • Short codes:
    • Available range: 6000 - 8999
    • Sender can be used for both 1way and 2way traffic.

Local senders registration

A local sender is an entity that operates within Uganda and focuses on reaching recipients who are also located within the country.

Alpha senders registration

Before you proceed with the requirements, make sure to gather the following details as they will be necessary for registering with telco, in addition to the other documents:

  • Use case description
  • Estimated monthly volume
  • Company name
  • Type of traffic
  • Company address
  • Server IP address

For the MTN Uganda network, sender should generate at least 1K monthly traffic. The supplier will be checking the traffic and removing any senders that do not have the specified amount of traffic.

In case the client cannot generate 1K monthly traffic, the generic sender InfoSMS should be used.

The message sample must include the Sender ID and cannot be generic, such as "Your code is XXXX". It is recommended to include the sender or brand name in the message content, as this can help speed up the registration process.

Download the Letter of Authorization from client to Infobip/No Objection Certificate template to proceed with the registration and follow the below guide for completing it. Fill in the yellow highlighted fields by completely replacing each field with your information. If a field is not highlighted, do not change it.

  1. Client's company logo and company details (company name, address and contact).
  2. Due date for which the letter was signed.
  3. Company name and the sender name to register.
  4. Add a brief service description, stating for what purpose the desired Sender ID will be used.
  5. Client's representative info (signature, name and job title).
  6. Company stamp.

  • Wholesales/partner - contact [email protected] and your dedicated account manager, and provide the documents along with the required sender information.
